Gas fired billet heaters for the heating of cast strands or billets before extruding

OTTO JUNKER is the only company worldwide who can supply both heater types established in the marketplace, i.e., gas and induction. We are thus in a position to provide unbiased advice for any specific application. Each heater type has individual strengths which should be discussed not least from the viewpoint of heating cost-efficiency and precision.

Both heater types can be combined virtually at will with magazines and saws (cold/hot) and various handling equipment designed to convey billets and logs in a safe and reliable manner.

Gas Fired Bilet Heater

The classic heater, comprising a flame zone in which the billets are exposed directly to the flames exiting from specially designed burners. The temperature difference between the flame and the billet is key to the compact footprint. The number of individually controllable burner zones is always adapted to the given application so that close temperature tolerances can be achieved reproducibly.

By re-using the exhaust gas from the flame zone repeatedly for billet and air preheating, a high efficiency can be attained. Different conveyor systems are available to match various production requirements in the most cost-efficient manner.

Gas Fired Billet Heater

Convection Heater

Themodern heater, notably where particularly close temperature tolerances or extremely low energy costs must be achieved. Gentle heating of billets is performed exclusively by means of a high-velocity fluid flow directed onto the metal from special nozzle systems ("jet heating"). Unlike a classic gas fired heater where the flame temperature will always far exceed the temperature of the billet, a convection heater requires only small temperature differences so that close temperature tolerances can be achieved reproducibly. The use of highly efficient recuperative burners ensures an efficiency that is second to none. Different conveyor systems are available to match various production requirements in the most cost-efficient manner.
