Gas-fired rapid heaters are the most common type of heating equipment used in aluminium extrusion works today. They are typically combined with hot log shears for cutting billets off the logs. OTTO JUNKER has been achieving major advances in the design of this heater type in recent years. Key features include the following:

Live conveying rollers supported in bearings external to the heater: This reduces roller wear dramatically. Moreover, the heater can be emptied smoothly and the combustion gases can flow around the billet in the best possible way. The proven Elhaus chain drive system remains available as an option.

Advanced gas/air control based on Moduline pressure ratio control technology.

Short control zones near the heater exit for taper heating.

Temperature measurement with four sensor tips in each zone (control and monitoring).

Exhaust gas extractor fans linked to the heater pressure control system.

Preheat chambers with high-convection or counter-current atmosphere flow for optimum recovery of heat from the exhaust gases.
