Single-billet induction heaters for aluminium extrusion shops

For heating or final heating of aluminium extrusion billets and for establishing an axial temperature gradient along the billet, the single-billet induction heater is the ideal solution.

The heater is dimensioned to suit the maximum billet length and has three to six separately controllable zones over its coil length.

Billets can be loaded and unloaded from the induction heater without any friction between the billet and handling system.

Since 2000, the high-power equipment of our single-billet induction heaters is based predominantly on OTTO JUNKER IGBT technology.

This transistorised converter technology provides the following advantages:

  • stepless power control of each coil section from 0 to 100%
  • single-phase coil connection, i.e., no phase shift between coil sections, to ensure uniform energy input and optimum low power consumption
  • power factor is approx. 0.99
  • uniform distribution of the single-phase coil load over the three phases of the existing power supply system
  • short and inexpensive magnetic field extender
