Skimming machines

Thermcon skimming machines are highly effective tools for every casthouse. Rather than the primitive method of skimming by forklift with long rake attached to it, the Thermcon skimming machine does the job more efficiently and faster.

 
 

The machine movements such as floor travel and all movements of the telescopic boom are hydraulically-operated However, hydraulic comoponents do not protrude into the furnace.

 

The skimming machine, because of its telescopic boom, takes up little space and has several advantages:

 
  • Safety - the operator stands well protected in an operator cabin for operation of the machine
  • Better feel for the work being done as the operator has excellent control over the movements of the telescopic boom which has the options to go forward and backward, up and down and can swivel sideways.
  • Better recovery; due to the better feel less free metal will be pulled out of the furnace together with the dross.
  • Force limiting devices limit the forces that can be exercised on the furnace lining, minimizing the damage to the lining, which is generally significant with forklift stirring.
